Now, these might not be the most obvious places to look for employment, and some of them might require you to work, but they all can lead you to that ever-elusive meaningful employment that you so desire in an incredible city.
Volta Labs — This might not be an obvious one. Volta is primarily a startup hub that provides free working space and resources for those company in early-stage development. Now, I know what you’re saying, ‘I don’t have a company so how would this work for me?’. Volta provides a free co-working space where you can rub shoulders with the leaders in Halifax’s tech-space, share ideas, and work together to solve problems. All you need to do is bring a laptop and start networking. You won’t even need to find a job; you can just create one!
Halifax Partnership Connector Program — This is a good one! The Halifax Partnership Connector Program is a program geared towards connecting immigrants and new graduates with established business people throughout the city. With the program, you’ll be able to grow your professional network and find new career opportunities. Through the program, you‘ll learn about the job market and enhance your networking skills while significantly improving the likelihood of finding relevant and meaningful employment. The best part of it all? It’s free!
Job Junction — Funded by the Government of Nova Scotia, this is a free service open to the public to help individuals with their careers. Want to find your first job? Come here. Fusion Halifax — Fusion Halifax is a non-profit organization that challenges young professionals to think differently about Halifax and how they can make it a better place to live, work, and play. There are eight different groups to volunteer with, from Immigration and Diversity and Health and Wellness to Entrepreneurship and Sustainability. Regardless of the team, you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of Halifax’s most-forward thinking and innovative young people, all of which will be a bonus to your professional network (and job hunt!).
