FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival : What You Need To Know

Back for its 37th year, FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival is ready to take over Halifax. Along with its chic new name and branding, FIN has scored a shiny partnership with Cineplex. The festival lands in Halifax on September 14th and we have you covered with everything you need to know.

What is FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival?

Since its origin as a small operation in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the Atlantic International Film Festival has grown over the past 37 years to one of Canada’s premier festivals. The event showcases national and international talent for viewers while immersing Halifax into a world of storytelling and cinematic excellence. This year is going to be bigger than ever, as they are taking over the entirety of Parklane Cinema, dedicating every screen to the festivals selections.

What films should I add to my list?

Long Time Running

Inline with Canada 150, the opening gala will feature ’Long Time Running’, a documentary detailing The Tragically Hip’s Man Machine Poem tour. This 2017 documentary follows The Tragically Hip, from the announcement of Gord Downie’s incurable brain cancer through their national tour which finished with the awe-inspiring and emotional final show in Kingston, Ontario.

Jasper Jones

Part-thriller and part-drama, ‘Jasper Jones’ follows the story of two boys and the quest to find the killer of a young girl. Based on the iconic book of the same title, the film highlights Western Australia’s striking topography while touching the racial undertones of the 160’s’s.

The Florida Project

Set in The Magic Castle, an enormous pink motel located just outside of Disney World, the film follows Moone and her mom, Halley, as they spend a summer living week to week in one of its dingy rooms. The film features breakout performances by Brooklynn Prince and Bria Vinaite long with a career-defining performance by Willem Dafoe, who plays the motel manager.
