Halifax Pop Explosion : What You Need To Know

Back for its 25th year, Halifax Pop Explosion has announced over 150 artists for the four-day festival. The festival starts on October 18th, and we have you covered with everything you need to know.

What is it Halifax Pop Explosion?

Since its inception in 1993, the Halifax Pop Explosion has taken the city by storm every fall. From its early days in Halifax to becoming a mainstay within the Canadian pop music scene, the city, and its people continue to embrace the event. Halifax Pop Explosion was initially a term used for the local 90’s music scene due to the rapid success of bands like Sloan and Thrush Hermit. In a way, this festival pays homage to Halifax’s rich music past while continually pushing its boundaries.

In 2017, the event is back with vengeance and ready to deliver for eager fans. The festival takes from October 18th to 21st and features from Canada, the USA, and throughout the world. Both festivals passes and day passes are currently available. Individual concert tickets will go on sale at the end of September and are subject to availability.

Acts to see:

Charlotte Day Wilson — The artist commonly referred to as CDW will leave the band The Wayo behind and perform solo at The Marquee on October 19th.

Clairmont The Second — Though only 18 and just out of high school, Clairmont The Second is going to bring some serious heat to Halifax. With shades of Tyler, The Creator, and the stage presence of someone 20 years his senior, this is a show you shouldn’t miss.

Patrick Watson — Former-Polaris Music Prize winner, Patrick Watson is bringing his most recent album, Love Song For Robots to HPX. His wispy voice and deep melodies are reminiscent of Bon Iver and will be sure to take hold of the HPX Mainstage when he closes the festival on the 21st.

Wyatt Cenac — As former Daily Show Correspondent, Cenac has performed on his own for the past five years. His dry wit and sharp stories will be unlike anything you would have previously seen at HPX. He’ll be at the Comedy Stage on the 19th.

Halifax Pop Explosion Music Conference

If sweaty music venues aren’t quite your thing, you can hit your stride at the HPX Music Conference. The conference is made of three summits (free and paid options), offering panels, forums, and networking events. There will be network mixers, opportunities to learn about music industry careers and have one-on-one meetings with industry leaders. You can learn more and register here.
