When looking for a new house, perhaps nothing is more important than proximity to quality schools. This is true if you have a family, are planning to start a family, or at some point, want to sell your house (to someone who has a family or is planning to start a family). And while commute time and proximity to amenities are important, they can shift or change while your school system will remain consistent.
Elementary schools can be tough to rank objectively. With high school rankings, more variables to measure performance exist, such as feeder achievement and post-secondary achievement. Elementary schools, however, provide two provincial assessments in Grade 3 and Grade 6 which act as baseline measurements. This is presented as a percentage of students who achieve a pre-determined standard. To further understand the long term outlook, percent-change is calculated eight years apart. This is a useful tool in a prospective homebuyers belt, as it very well could your home’s resale value.
